Red Cross assisted over 67 residents after a fire on Montgomery Ave in the Bronx.

From Sept 21-27, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 174 adults and 74 children following 47 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• Ahead of the nor’easter storm, we shared these flooding and wind safety tips to help families be prepared.
• We teamed up with Con Edison to produce this video with a few tips for refreshing your emergency preparedness kit this fall.
• Last Wednesday, CBS2, ABC7, News12, NY Daily News and NY1 reported on the Red Cross helping 67 residents after a fatal fire on Montgomery Ave in Morris Heights (Bronx).
• For #HispanicHeritageMonth we are honoring Hispanic and Latino Red Crossers like Julio Medina who helps connect with people impacted by disasters as a bilingual responder.
• Meet Michael, Katie and Caitrin who are members of dedicated #TeamRedCross runners for the 2026 #TCSNYCMarathon!
• Continuing to remember 9/11 after 25 years, we shared this story from long-time Red Crosser Harry Davila, who was part of the Red Cross team who initially responded to the terrorist attacks.
• Our team recently met with Westhab and 914 Cares in Westchester County to discuss potential collaboration opportunities to support neighbors across our region.
• We posted this incredible highlight reel thanking the donors who donated over 225 units of lifesaving blood over the two-day "Day of Remembrance" blood drives held in our midtown office.
• Patch reported on the September 19 Home Fire Campaign event that installed free smoke alarms in over 100 homes in Smithtown, NY.
