Over the last seven days, the Greater New York Red Cross has provided emergency assistance to 496 adults and 134 children following 39 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review
  • BIG NEWS for our Greater New York Region: After three wonderful years, our regional CEO Mary Barneby has retired! We are so grateful for her leadership and Red Cross spirit. Once a Red Crosser, always a Red Crosser! We are excited to welcome Celena Roldan Sarillo as our interim CEO! 
  • On Friday, our Service to the Armed Forces Team supported our partner organization Blue Star Families, partnering with Starbucks to hold their “Family Coffee Connection.” Thank you to our furry friends Mayhem, Ivy Grace & Ted for your exceptional volunteer work! 
  • Volunteer Spotlight: NYC Marathon runner Heather runs in support of the Red Cross, “I cannot wait to see how the money I fundraise turns into shelters, hot meals, local disaster response, and many more tangible items for those in need!” Click here to learn more about Heather’s story. 
  • This Saturday, American Red Cross of Greater New York staff, volunteers, and board members were certified in CPR & AED at Pronto of Long Island
  • Regional Senior Director John Waldman visited the Bronx and our partner Assemblyman John Zaccaro Jr. on Saturday. We are deeply appreciative of Assemblyman Zaccaro’s support and desire to bring our lifesaving program to his constituents. 
  • Blood Donation Spotlight: “It’s the right thing to do,” explained Cadet Jonas Ebner of the United States Military Academy at West Point, giving blood at every opportunity.

  • On Tuesday, our volunteers from Hudson Valley Paws for Cause and their furry friends joined us at West Point Military Academy for our The Red Cross Paws For Kids Event
  • On Wednesday, News 12 reported the NYC Disaster Action Team assisted over 100 people after a Wakefield apartment fire. 
  • June is National #PetPreparednessMonth. The Red Cross Pet Safety mobile app can help you discover how to include your pet in your emergency plan. 
  • We celebrated international #WorldDonorDay on Thursday! Thank you to all our blood donors for your life-saving donations. Sign up to be a blood donor today! 
  • Thursday morning, ABC 7 and News 12 reported the Greater NY Disaster Action Team assisted multiple families after a fire spread through a multi-family apartment building in Brooklyn.
  • Regional Senior Director John Waldman visited Rockland County and our partner Assemblyman Ken Zabrowski on Thursday. We are deeply appreciative of Assemblyman Zabrowski's support and desire to bring our lifesaving program to his constituents. 
  • Blood Donation Spotlight: Originally from Illinois, Cadet Stephen Peters is a first-year at the US Military Academy Prep School at West Point, giving blood at every opportunity.
