From August 4 – 10, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 121 adults and 52 children following 44 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• On Sunday, CBS2 reported on the Red Cross providing families with temporary lodging after a fire in the Jamaica section of Queens.
• Over the weekend, #HFC volunteers partnered with the FDNY to distribute free smoke alarms across New York City.
• Last Friday, News12 reported on the Red Cross providing emergency assistance to 8 adults and 4 children in Allerton, the Bronx.
• On Thursday, News12 reported on Red Cross in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn providing 7 adults and 4 children with emergency assistance.
• Pedro the Penguin and Red Cross volunteer Alex shared disaster preparedness tips with New Settlement students last week.
• Last Wednesday, we partnered with NY State Senator Bill Weber to install free smoke alarms in Rockland County, NY.
• #LIRedCross volunteers with the Logistics team also did some disaster posture and readiness work.
• Last Tuesday, we celebrated the 1-year anniversary of Greater NY Regional CEO, Doreen Thomann-Howe with this retrospective video.
• We posted a viral reel highlighting the July 6th Red Cross response, assisting 10 people, after a fire on Halsey Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
• We also showcased how Stephen got #drip after donating blood.

• We’re Hiring: The Red Cross is looking for a qualified Maintenance Tech III to support building management for each of our Greater New York Sites. We are considering both external and internal applicants.
