• Over the weekend, the LI Herald and Newsday covered our Sound the Alarm home fire event to install free smoke alarms for residents of Long Beach.
• With the #RedWhiteBall just a couple of weeks away, Dr. Kim Nichols and Chris Cabanillas hosted a Patron Party to thank our supporters who are helping to make the event a success.
• The GNY team rolled up their sleeves last week for blood drives at Pace University and at our regional HQ on West 49th Street.
• Last Thursday, after a 2-alarm fire on Van Siclen Ave in Brooklyn, the Red Cross assisted a family with emergency housing and financial aid.
• Happy Dog Therapy Appreciation Day to our fabulous therapy dogs who bring joy and smiles to everyone they visit.
• After a fatal fire last Tuesday in the Bronx, the NY Daily News, PIX11, and News12 reported on the Red Cross assisting one family.

• Throughout last week, we held our annual Disaster Ready Summit to get out volunteers trained and ready (even through a rare earthquake).
• After the surprise earthquake last Friday, we shared these safety tips on what to do after.
• Last Thursday, the Greenwich Time reported on how two Hamilton Avenue School third-graders got to be Fire-Chief-for-a-day and take their class for a fun day with the Greenwich Fire Department! Our Preparedness Team also taught the class fire safety with Buddy the Pet Therapy Dog.
• We held the fifth installment of the We Were There panel series focusing on Crisis & Operations Management and explore how our leaders have utilized these concepts during some of the largest events across Greater New York region & nationally.
• We recognized an amazing long-time Red Cross volunteer Barbara Robey as part of our #ShareTheRed celebration with a Spotlight Hero award.
• Last Wednesday, Patch.com reported on the #LIRredCross assisting 4 families with financial assistance and comfort supplies after a fire on Cake Walk Terrace in Smithtown.

• Our volunteer recruitment team of Glenn Kearney, Katherine Reilly, Mitchell Ostrover tabled at Nassau Community College last Tuesday.
• The River Journal covered the “Sound the Alarm” event in Peekskill on March 23.

• The Greater NY Red Cross was out in force this weekend, to “sound the alarm” about home fires and installing smoke alarms in the Bronx and Peekskill. Special thanks to Peekskill Mayor Vivian McKenzie, Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg, Peekskill Fire Dept and Police Dept, Peekskill OEM, Congressman Mike Lawler, Senator Pete Harckham, Mira USA and all of our volunteers for their partnership and support!
• There was a great turnout on Saturday for Hands-Only CPR and First Aid training at Munger Cottage in Cornwall taught by our Preparedness Team.
• Last Friday, our Metro NY North team responded to three Westcheter fires in one day in White Plains, Yonkers, and Buchanan, opening two reception centers to help residents register for emergency assistance.
• Continuing our Women’s History Month series of profiles, last week, we featured Amanda Hayde, Takia A. Chandler, Lih-Fan Chang and Jennifer Pearsall.
• Last Wednesday, after a meet and greet with Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Suffolk County Legislators and #LIRedCross volunteers and board members helped raise the flag to celebrate March Red Cross month.
• Westchester County Executive George Latimer also joined with leaders from the Greater New York Region to celebrate Red Cross Month with a flag raising in White Plains.
• Last Tuesday, we gathered at our NYC headquarters to #sharethered and took the opportunity to celebrate just a few of our volunteers who have more than 25 years of service.
• #LIRedCross CEO Jose Dominguez shared his moving and historic experience of donating for the first time as a gay man with his husband Craig at the Jill and John Coyle Blood Center.

• We also hoped you cheered our team who ran in the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on Sunday to benefit the Red Cross mission.
• On Saturday, our #LongIsland team participated in the Black Wellness Expo at the Hollywood Baptist Cathedral sponsored by the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Links, Inc. in Amityville, NY.
• For Women's History Month, we wanted to highlight just a few Red Cross women who have served the Greater New York Region and continue to serve the community. Learn about local SHEROES like Nicole Marks, Riana Segerson, and Johanna Conroy.
• For her monthly Greenwich Sentinel column, Metro NY North CEO Stephanie Dunn Ashley put a spotlight of the extraordinary volunteerism of Greenwich Police Chief Jim Heavey to celebrate #RedCrossMonth.
• The Queens Chronicle and RiverheadLOCAL encouraged everyone to check their smoke alarms after daylight savings time.

• At the Red Cross Heroes Gala last Wednesday, we honored Brandon Tsay and Juan Dilone for their heroism, as well as Mastercard and the New York Yankees Foundation for their humanitarianism.
• Many New York buildings and landmarks went red to celebrate #RedCrossMonth.
• Over the weekend, our Home Fire Campaign was out in the Bronx sharing fire safety information and installing 58 free smoke alarms in 28 homes, educating 85 people about how to be prepared in case of home fires.
• Last Saturday, the Norwood News reported that the Red Cross assisted two families after a fire on Tryon Avenue in the Norwood section of the Bronx.
• We featured members of Team Red Cross who will be running the NYC Half Marathon in support of our mission: Giacomo Colarullo, Camila Paquet, Vibha Sreenivasa, Mike Collins, and Anthony Ammerman.
• Last Thursday, #MetroNYNRedCross was recognized by Spring Valley Mayor Alan Simon for opening two separate emergency shelters to support residents displaced after two fires in Rockland County.
• Did you see our Red Cross team at Family Connect Night in West Islip? We were excited to work with the West Islip Fire Department and the West Islip School District to focus on sharing important information around Fire Safety, Emergency Preparedness and Water Safety in Suffolk County.
• On Feb. 8, we held the latest installment of the “We Were There” panel discussion series on “International Deployments”, featuring American Red Cross team members who serve as international delegates.

• Last Sunday, Newsday reported on the #LIRedCross responding to a fire on West Main Street in Riverhead (Suffolk County) where 8 families received financial assistance.
• Over the weekend, the #LIRedCross participated in a Community Resource Day in Brentwood.

• Last Saturday, our SAF team participated in an educational Black History event about African Americans in the US Army Air Force in WWII, hosted by Mount Vernon’s Veterans Service Agency.
• Over the weekend, #LIRedCross volunteers took time out of their weekend to help make their communities safer by installing free smoke alarms.
• The NY Times, PIX11, ABC7 and CBS2 reported on the fatal fire on St. Nicholas Place in Harlem last Friday night, where the Red Cross opened a reception center and has registered 70 people and 11 pets for assistance.
• Last Wednesday, Queens Council Member Julie Won thanked the Red Cross for assisting 10 families after a fire in her district on 38th Ave in Dutch Kills.
• We posted a feature article on longtime GNY volunteer Richard Gallis, who was awarded the inaugural Tess Sheil Award - an award which remembers the amazing legacy of volunteerism left by 50-year Red Cross volunteer Tess Sheil.
• At the start of last week, CBS2, Queens Ledger, QNS.com, and ABC7 reported on the Red Cross responding to a fire on 60th Rd in Maspeth (Queens), where the Red Cross registered 28 residents for assistance.

• The Bronx Times reported on a fire last Thursday on E. 176th Street in the Bronx where the Red Cross provided emergency assistance to 4 residents.
• First-time blood donor Anna White also shared her story about why she decided to donate blood after hearing about the national shortage.

• Last Friday, Senator Iwen Chu joined our Home Fire Team to install free smoke alarms and help make her community safer.
• The Brooklyn Paper, Patch.com and News 12 reported on the Red Cross assisting 7 families after a fire sparked by e-bikes in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
• Last Wednesday, our LI Disaster Action Team responded to a fire in Seaford (Nassau County) and registered one family for emergency assistance.
• Last Tuesday, our MNYN Disaster Action Team responded to a fire in Greenwich and registered two families for emergency assistance.
• Great work by our Metro New York North Disaster Action Team who recently responded to five separate fires in one week and was covered by lohud.com for their efforts.

• Throughout last week, West Point Military Academy hosted their annual blood drive and it was a resounding success!

• Giving a few hours of your time each month is all you need to support the American Red Cross’ lifesaving mission. You can support our volunteer workforce with various administrative tasks as a Disaster Workforce Engagement volunteer, this hybrid role can be done at home or at a red cross office.

• For Black History Month, we honor the vibrant heritage and significant contributions that Black Americans have made to our country and to the Red Cross.
• News12 Westchester reported on the Red Cross assisting 4 families after a fire on Orchard St. in Peekskill.
• Last Friday, #LIRedCross helmed a booth at the Long Island Metro Fire/EMS Expo, distributing fire safety and lifesaving skills information.
• The Mayor of Mount Vernon, Shawyn Patterson-Howard, highlighted the efforts of the Red Cross assisting a family after a fire on S. 10th Ave.
• Leaders from Red Cross regions throughout New York met with Senator Bill Weber to discuss the blood shortage in New York State and the steps we are taking to ensure an adequate supply remains available.
• Last Wednesday, News 12 reported on the Red Cross assisting 6 families after a fire on in the northeastern Bronx.
• Kudos to the Horace Mann Red Cross Club for hosting their very first blood drive at the end of January and to NYC Council Member Eric Dinowitz and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz for coming out to support the blood drive in their Bronx districts.
• Our Service to the Armed Forces team visited Fort Totten in Queens, NY, last week to provide information regarding Red Cross services during a pre-deployment event.
• We met with the new West Point Garrison Commander, Col. Travis E. Robison, to discuss Red Cross programs available to support military members, veterans and their families through our Service to the Armed Forces mission.

• Last Wednesday, CBS NY spoke with disaster responder Franddy Rodriguez supporting residents after a floor collapse in Queens Village.
• Last Tuesday, News 12 reported on the Red Cross assisting 20 families in the Tremont section of the Bronx.
• On the 15th Anniversary of the Miracle on the Hudson, Red Crossers celebrated with passengers of Flight 1549.
• Last Monday, #LIRedCrossers responded to an electrical fire in Centereach where they assisted four families displaced from their home.
• A big THANK YOU to our volunteers who have deployed to help our neighbors in New Jersey after winter storms brought flooding to several parts of the state.
• The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Patch and Brooklyn Paper reported on our team working with the FDNY and FDNY Foundation to install over 100 free smoke alarms in Brooklyn for #MLKDayofService.
