From August 25 – 31, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 98 adults and 27 children following 30 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)
Last Week in Review
- Last Sunday, we provided preparedness information for disasters big and small to families at the Brentwood Salsa Festival.
- The #RedCross showcased its Yankees Community Service Award, displayed in the Disaster Responder area on #ThankfulThursday.
- Council Member Carmen De La Rosa thanked the Red Cross and other partners for participating in a two-day back-to-school giveaway event.
- We posted a #TBT video of a back-to-school safety challenge, created in 1994, in collaboration with FEMA and the Red Cross.
- Maria talks about her deployment experience building connections with migrant children in Midland, TX in this viral short video.
- Pacific Palisades wildfire survivor Missy Romoff #SlayedTheDayAway by inspiring others to be resilient while training for Team #RedCross at the #TCSNYCMarathon.
- Jaime explains how he rizzed up a girl by donating blood.
- Last Tuesday, LongIsland.com, Syosset Advance, Patch, the Long Island Press, Long Island Life, Newsday, and the Daily Voice reported on the #LIRedCross providing emergency assistance to 19 adults and 6 children after a fire in Woodbury (Nassau County).
- Also on Tuesday, News12 reported on the Red Cross providing temporary lodging to a resident after a fire in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn.
- We posted a viral short showcasing Red Cross efforts in assisting 4 families after a fire in Crotona Park East, the Bronx.
- We collaborated with Assemblymen Manny De Los Santos and Jordan J.G. Wright to produce an upcoming PSA on helping their constituents get free smoke alarms with the Get Alarmed NYC program.
