From June 22-28, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 167 adults and 52 children following 53 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

• Teams with Cruz Roja Venezolana are helping conduct search and rescue after last week’s powerful series of earthquakes.
• Assemblymember Michaelle Solages posted an incredible recap reel from the day of service on June 20.
• We were distributing fire safety information and taking sign-ups for free smoke alarm installations at the Doles Recreation Center in Mt. Vernon.
• Last Thursday, News12 reported on the Red Cross helping 4 families after a fire on Franklin Ave in Bed Stuy (Brooklyn).

• Frank is O+ and donates blood regularly to help sick patients and for the awesome pretzels!
• On the anniversary of the Battle of Solferino in 1859, we reshared our podcast about the annual journey to Solferino that hundreds of Red Crossers take every year.

From June 15-21, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 154 adults and 63 children following 50 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

• News12 reported on the Red Cross helping 3 families early Monday morning, after a fire on Putnam Ave in Brooklyn.
• We wished a happy Father’s Day to Red Cross dads like John Waldman and Amar Nanugonda, who are helping to inspire the next generation of humanitarians.
• The #LIRedCross teamed up with Legislator Cynthia Nuñez and Assemblymember Michaelle Solages for a day of service in Valley Stream making homes safer with free smoke alarm installations.
• Last Friday, News12 reported on the Red Cross helping 8 residents after a fire on East 160th street in the Bronx.
• We celebrated our Long Island volunteers at the second of three Volunteer Recognition Events.
• #LIRedCross Volunteers attended the Islip-Smithtown NAACP JUNETEENTH Celebration to share info about Red Cross programs.
• Thank you to Senator Martinez for inviting the American Red Cross to participate in this year's Senior Fun Day at Tanner Park.
• Last Wednesday, we proudly launched “Los Donantes” (The Donors), a blood donation campaign designed to increase blood donations within Latino communities at Fordham University in the Bronx.

• Congrats to Greenwich Police Chief and Red Cross volunteer and board member, Jim Heavey, who was elected as President of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association (CPCA).

Last Week in Review

• This past Saturday, we also held our last major free smoke alarm install event of the year in the Bronx, partnering with Councilmember Pierina Sanchez and Senator Gustavo Rivera.
• #MetroNYNRedCross supported Mt Vernon, NY community’s Juneteenth event by providing information about installation of smoke alarms, creating family home fire escape plans, and what you should pack into your “emergency go-bags.”
• Last Thursday, News12 reported on the Red Cross helping a family after a fire on Hunts Point Ave in the Bronx.
• We’re deeply grateful to Bill Ritter of ABC7NY Eyewitness News for his remarkable service to our region in light of his recent announcement to step away from anchoring.
• We celebrated our GNY volunteers at the first of three Volunteer Recognition Events.
• As the World Cup begins across 11 host cities nationwide, we’re proud to welcome the world and stand ready to support our global community every step of the way.
• Last Monday, we teamed up with Bronx Borough President, Vanessa Gibson, the NY Yankees and other community partners to install free smoke alarms in Bronx homes in the morning.
• In the same afternoon, we traveled to Queens, where our incredible volunteers taught CPR and empowered community members with life-saving skills that could one day save a loved one's life.
• Next, we headed to Nassau County, where Senator Bynoe rolled up her sleeves and joined us in installing smoke alarms and promoting fire safety throughout her community.
• Finally, we brought our mission back home to Suffolk County, completing another installation for a local resident and continuing our commitment to helping families stay safe.

• On Monday, Hoodline and QNS reported on the Red Cross helping five residents after a 3-alarm fire in Hunters Point (Queens).
• Last Saturday, MidHudsonNews reported on the Metro NY North Red Cross registering 3 people for recovery support after a fire in Peekskill (Westchester County).
• Also on Saturday, the #MNYNRedCross partnered with SUNY Rockland and Yonkers PAL to conduct a thunderbolt exercise, opening shelters and registration, to prepare our teams in the event of a disaster.
• Last weekend, #LIRedCross installed free smoke alarms with Suffolk County Legislator RJ Renna in Babylon homes.
• While installing free smoke alarms, we also celebrated the birthdays of Red Crossers Anthony, Glenn, and Jason.
