From July 27-August 2, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 123 adults and 34 children following 34 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• This past week, ABC7 and Patch reported the Red Cross declared a national blood supply crisis.
• Amid the blood supply crisis, #MNYNRedCross CEO Stephanie Dunn Ashley urges people to #GiveBlood or to sign up as a blood donor ambassador.
• Last Thursday, #LIRedCross installed free smoke alarms with Assemblyman Kwani B. O'Pharrow in Amityville homes.
• We shared an Instagram reel recognizing Zeana Tan and the Manhattan Center for Science and Math for their remarkable leadership, organization, and impact.
• At a blood drive in Mount Kisco Public Library, Senator Pete Harckham encouraged people to donate blood and to become a #lifesaver.
• Last Tuesday, Paddles Up Pickleball hosted their American Red Cross Mix & Match Charity Tournament, raising funds to support the lifesaving mission of #RedCrossNY.
• Also on Tuesday, our team stopped by Pronto of Long Island to teach basic first aid to children during their Summer Youth Program.

• Fordham University student Bienvenido feels fulfilled after donating blood.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities

• For only the 2nd time in its history, the Red Cross has declared a national blood crisis. Patients may already be impacted. Blood donations have fallen to a 4-year summer low. Donors, especially those with type O blood, are needed ASAP to help save lives. Book your appointment now.
