Helping families prepare for disaster at back-to-school events in Queens and Yonkers.

From August 24-30, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 129 adults and 41 children following 47 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• Sunday evening, Patch reported on the #LIRedCross responding to a fire in Port Washington, Nassau County.
• Last weekend, the #LIRedCross was at Legislator Sam Gonzalez' Salsa Festival in Brentwood, distributing safety information and signed up attendees for free smoke alarm installations!
• Last Week, we helped families prepare for disasters at Back-to-School events in Queens and in Yonkers.
• PIX11 reported on the Red Cross x Hello Kitty promotion, where you can get a free Hello Kitty plush when you #GiveBlood, starting in September.
• On Thursday, QNS reported on the Red Cross providing emergency assistance to 2 households in South Ozone Park (Queens).
• Also on Thursday, Hoodline and News12 reported on the Red Cross responding to a fire in Pelham Parkway (Bronx).
• Last Monday, News12 reported on the Red Cross providing emergency housing for 3 residents after a fire on Vermont Street in Brooklyn.
• We posted this viral YouTube post, highlighting a Red Cross response to a devastating fire in Flushing (Queens).
• Back in June, Delta Airlines was recognized with the Biomedical Champion Award, for its collaboration with the Red Cross to host dozens of blood drives since 1941.
