#LIRedCross distributing preparedness information at the Ossining Collective's Back-to-School Festival.
From August 10-16, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 163 adults and 46 children following 37 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review
  • The #LIRedCross was proud to join the Oyster Jamboree & Frolic in Port Jefferson, NY, for a day filled with beautiful weather, great music, delicious food, and an incredible community turnout.
  • News12 covered the Ossining Collective's second annual Back-to-School Festival on Saturday where the #LIRedCross shared preparedness information with families.
  • We were excited to join Univision Regreso a Clase events in Queens and the Bronx, connecting with hundreds of families and sharing important safety information as students prepare for the new school year.
  • Last Wednesday, QNS and CBS2 reported on the Red Cross helping 2 families after a fire on 91st St in Woodhaven (Queens).
  • Greater New York Red Crossers Vivian and Lenia gave updates from their deployments across the country.
  • We shared this reel remembering the Northeast Blackout of August 14, 2003.
  • Back in June, Susue Huie was recognized with the Service to the Armed Forces Award for demonstrating an unwavering commitment to excellence in providing home comforts and critical services to members of the military, veterans, and their families.
  • This YouTube short showed how Ned stepped up to donate blood so there's a supply for those who need it.
  • This video reel highlighted the #LIRedCross helping 2 residents after a fire on Arlington St in New Cassel (Nassau County) on July 24.
  • Assemblyman Patrick J. Carroll partnered with us to help make his district safer by installing free smoke alarms in homes.
  • Last Monday, News12 reported on the Red Cross helping 7 adults and 1 child after a fire on Nelson Ave in the Bronx.
  • Our team was excited to participate in the FDNY Block Party on Staten Island last weekend. They welcomed Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore and shared fire safety information with local residents.

Upcoming Events and Opportunities
  • While we're no longer facing a blood crisis, the blood supply is extremely vulnerable — especially as we approach new seasonal challenges, like end-of-summer travel & back-to-school activities which can disrupt donors' availability to give. Please donate.
