In Case You Missed It

The Red Cross opened a reception center to help residents after a fire on DeKalb Ave in the Bronx.

From August 17-23, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 287 adults and 71 children following 25 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• Early Monday morning, PIX11 reported on the Red Cross helping 2 families after a fatal fire on Shore Rd in Bay Ridge (Brooklyn).
• Last Thursday, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson thanked the Red Cross for opening a reception center at MMCC Community Center to help residents displaced by a fire on DeKalb Avenue in the Bronx. News12, ABC7, CBS2, Hoodline and Norwood News and reported on the incident.
• Last Tuesday, NYCEM Commissioner Christina Farrell recognized the American Red Cross of Greater New York during #NYCNonprofitWeek for its decades of service to New Yorkers.
• Back in June, Olivia Haunso was recognized with the Disaster Response Award, for her commitment to helping residents after an emergency.
• Metro NY North Board Members recently trained in CPR and AED to demonstrate how we never know when or where an emergency will occur, but we can be prepared when moments matter.
• Recently, Staten Island CDPM Clarisse led a shelter training in French for our French-speaking volunteers.
• We had a great day at the FDNY Bronx block party on Aug 16th! Our team was super excited to meet Bronx neighbors, FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore and NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
• Development Communications Manager, Zaide Manzur, celebrated her two-year anniversary with the Red Cross by going live on Noticias Telemundo as a National Spokesperson.
