From May 19-26, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 94 adults and 23 children following 33 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• LongIsland.com, Patch, and Daily Voice, reported on the #LIRedCross assisting 3 adults, 2 children, and 2 pets after a fire on 8th street in East Meadow on Sunday.
• News 12 reported on the Red Cross assisting 6 families after a 2-alarm fire at Bari Manor in Croton-on-Hudson (Westchester County).
• Over the weekend, #LIRedCross volunteers placed flags on the gravesites of fallen veterans at the Calverton National Cemetery to honor them on Memorial Day.
• During the Fleet Week weekend, Red Cross volunteers taught CPR and distributed information about our Hero Care Network for our military community at the Intrepid.
• Last Thursday, News 12 and the Norwood News reported on the Red Cross assisting 4 families after a fire on Marion Avenue in the Bronx.
• Stephanie Dunn Ashley’s latest Greenwich Sentinel column focuses on appreciating those who serve in the military.

• Last Wednesday, we had an absolute blast celebrating Fort Hamilton's Salute to the Ships—a lively tribute to welcome Fleet Week vessels to New York Harbor.

• We met with New Rochelle Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert to explore strategies for enhancing community preparedness and resilience to prevent avoidable tragedies.

• June 1: We have been invited again to participate in Long Island’s 59th Annual Puerto Rican/Hispanic Parade.
• June 2: The 2025 Hurricane Season is upon us and once again we are working with our partners to get the word out about hurricane and severe storm safety at this press conference.
• June 7: Participate in the Disaster Cycle Services Full Scale Exercise
• June 13: Ft. Hamilton is celebrating its 200th birthday with vendors, food trucks, fireworks and live music. Open to the Public with Registration. Free for DoD & ID card holders as well as Club Members.
