From Apr 27-May 3, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency
assistance to 168 adults and 47 children following 34 local disasters.
Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming

Last Week in Review
- Early Monday morning, CBS2, FOX5 and PIX11 reported that the Red Cross helped 16 families after a deadly fire on Dyckman Street in Inwood (Upper Manhattan).
- News12 reported on the Red Cross helping 12 families after a fire on Grand St in East Williamsburg (Brooklyn).
- On Sunday, CBS2 reported on the Red Cross helping 2 families after a fire on 93rd st in East Elmhurst (Queens).
- Last Saturday was a great day to help #EndHomeFires in Yonkers thanks to the 70+ team members who dedicated their day to sharing fire safety information with 85 families while installing 225 smoke alarms. Jeremey Hopwood covered the event for News12 Westchester in this feature!
- Last Thursday, Daily Voice, LongIsland.com and Patch.com reported on the #LIRedCross assisting 3 families after a fire on Fenwood Drive in Valley Stream (Nassau County).
- To help promote Pet First Aid Month in April, we put together this collage of our amazing four-legged volunteers in action!
- We had an incredible night of generosity at the 2026 Ruby Red & White Ball, raising over $1.3 million to support the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross and honoring Admiral Lisa M. Franchetti (Retired), Giovanna Miller and Crabtree Motor Group and Crabtree Family for their leadership and philanthropic commitment to community.
- We were proud to meet with BPJCC and Chaverim to relaunch our partnership to help make Boro Park homes safer and reduce fire risk — starting with prevention and preparedness.
- Last Tuesday, News12 Westchester, PIX11, CBS2 and Daily Voice reported on the Red Cross opening a reception center to help 22 families after a gas explosion fire on Riverdale Ave in Yonkers.
