In Case You Missed It

From July 6-12, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 112 adults and 38 children following 34 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review
  • A few clouds in the sky did not stop our volunteers from joining in the Mount Vernon community preparedness event on Saturday.
  • We are grateful to our Metro New York North Chapter volunteer Deb B. for deploying to support communities impacted by recent severe weather and tornadoes in Indiana.
  • Therapy dog Ari reported for duty to help welcome new cadets from across the country as they begin their journey at the West Point Military Academy.
  • Last June, Brandon Sherr was awarded the Tess Sheil Award. This reel highlights his exceptional commitment to volunteer service.
  • We posted this YouTube short highlighting how the Red Cross helped 14 adults and 4 children with emergency assistance after a fire on Ocean Pkwy in Brooklyn on June 17.
  • Last Tuesday, NYC Emergency Management coordinated a full, multi-agency response, which included the GNY Red Cross, to the structural concerns at E. 42nd St which fortunately did not result in people being displaced from homes.

  • Emergency blood shortage: The Red Cross blood supply fell nearly 25% in June. Blood donors — especially those with types O+ & B- blood — and platelet donors are urgently needed to help ensure lifesaving medical care isn't delayed for patients. Book now.
