From July 13-19, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 193 adults and 46 children following 45 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• Yesterday, firediarynewyork reported on IG that Red Cross responders provided Gatorade/water to firefighters and provided emergency assistance to 18 adults and 7 children after a fire on Sheridan Ave in the Bronx.
• Last week, we took time to remember two historically significant disasters in the Greater New York region: TWA Flight 800 Tragedy and the 2006 Queens Blackout, both occurring on July 17.
• Last Friday, QNS reported on the Red Cross helping 8 families with emergency assistance after a fire on Hollis Ave in Queens.
• Last Thursday, CBS2, Telemundo47 and News12 reported on the Red Cross helping 13 adults and 4 children after a fire on Briggs Ave in Fordham (Bronx).
• This YouTube short highlights long-time volunteer Fernando Morales was honored with the Dottie Brier Award back in June for responding to the psychological and emotional needs of people affected by disasters.
• After his sister's passing from cancer, Chris realized how much donating blood can help other patients.
• We posted this video reel highlighting how the Red Cross helped 5 adults and 3 children with emergency assistance after a fire on Franklin Ave in Bed-Stuy (Brooklyn) on June 25.
• Extreme temperatures and the summer holiday have caused a shortage of blood donations so #LIRedCross CEO Jose Dominguez had this video message to encourage others to donate.
• Last Tuesday, ABC7, PIX11 and QNS reported on the Red Cross helping 5 families after a fire on 76th street in Woodhaven (Queens).
• Last Monday, QNS reported on the Red Cross helping 14 residents after a fire on Grandview Ave in Ridgewood (Queens).
