The Red Cross opened a reception center and helped 26 families
after a fire on Vyse Ave in Cortona Park East (Bronx).

From Sept 14-20, the Red Cross in Greater New York provided emergency assistance to 145 adults and 39 children following 42 local disasters. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• News12 reported on the #LIRedCross helping 7 adults and 2 children after a fire on Webb Ave in Hempstead (Nassau County).
• It was a weekend of Home Fire Safety as we teamed up with FDNY and Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal to install free smoke alarms in East Harlem homes.
• The #LIRedCross teamed up with the town of Smithtown, FRES commissioner Rudy Sunderman, the Hauppauge fire department and the Nesconset Fire department to help make families safer across the Long Island community.
• After a home fire sadly took a life in Yonkers, our #MetroNYNRedCross team met in the neighborhood and distributed fire safety information to 240 homes and sign-up residents for free smoke alarm installations.
• Last Thursday, ABC7, Brooklyn Paper and News12 reported on the Red Cross helping 20 displaced adults and 6 children after a school bus crashed into a building on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.
• Last Wednesday, Greater New York Red Cross CEO Doreen Howe met with another awesome member of the NYS Legislature freshman class, Assembly member Diana Moreno to discuss future partnerships in the community.
• Our #MetroNYNRedCross volunteer Sal Di Liberti deployed to Hawaii to support communities on Kauai affected by Hurricane Lowell.
• Last Tuesday, ABC7, CBS2 and News12 reported on the Red Cross opening a reception center to help 26 families after a fire on Vyse Ave in Crotona Park East (Bronx).
• News12, Newsday and Patch reported on the #LIRedCross helping a family after fire on Merrick Ave in North Merrick (Nassau County).
• We shared this reel highlighting how the Red Cross helped 26 families after a fire on E 209th in Norwood (Bronx) back on Aug 5.
