Red Cross volunteers were featured on ABC7’s annual safety special, Operation 7: Save a Life.

Over the last seven days, the Greater New York Red Cross has provided emergency assistance to 134 adults and 59 children following 45 local disaster responses. Here are some highlights from last week and a preview of upcoming activities. (See below)

Last Week in Review

• Over the weekend, local Red Cross volunteers were featured on ABC7’s annual safety special, Operation 7: Save a Life. (Watch Red Cross segment at 16:29 mark)
• CBS NY and the NY Daily News reported on Red Cross assistance after a fire in East Elmhurst, Queens.
• ABC7, PIX11 and News 12 reported on Metro NY North Red Cross assistance after an apartment fire on Mulberry St in Yonkers.
• Last Friday, the Long Island Red Cross participated in the My Brother's Keeper Family Money Game Night at the Brentwood Public Library.
• Last week, Greater NY Red Cross volunteer sisters Rok and Zoe arrived in Alabama to support the Red Cross response to last week’s tornadoes there.
• For #NationalBloodDonorMonth, Stacie Kloepfer-Brocks and Mike Wieneke shared why donating blood is important to them.
• Last Monday, we reflected on the legacy and teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. and how volunteering honors him.
• At the end of 2022, seven “Sound the Alarm” team members donated their Saturday to install bed shaker smoke alarms for deaf and hard of hearing residents in NYC.
